(REAL NAME) Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Elsse (TM) 4.3 Inch Internet Touchscreen Tablet with Built in WIFI and much more (Personal Computers) This was purchased as a gift for my daughter to use at college between classes due to its small size. She can use the Wi-Fi at home and at school. She is in love with it. The unit does so much and will continue to change as she installs and deletes as she wants. Came with Android 2.2.1 installed. She just wanted an MP3 and video player and got so much more. There is only a few grips that can be lived with. It does not have any sound adjustment like EQ. The sound is OK but could be better. The speaker is weak but not horible like the Sylvania of which I returned two of them. There is no data about the device features such as screen capabilities but they are excellent. All of her freinds that have played with the device are blown away and want one. At $59.00 this device is great value loaded with capabilities. Wife wants one now as she can’t stop playing Angry Bird game. Daughter might have to pry it out of her cold dead fingers to get it back. It has I’m guessing about a 4 gig flash drive. It links to the computer as two drives. The first drive has about 2.6 gigs remaining on the drive but is loaded with lots of good software. I purchased the Amazon 8 gig class 10 microSD card and it works great. If it becomes available again its a great buy. 57 of 57 people found the following review helpful 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Entry Level Android Tablet (If you know what you’re buying.), November 16, 2011 ByScott L (Cape Canaveral, FL) – See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Elsse (TM) 4.3 Inch Internet Touchscreen Tablet with Built in WIFI and much more (Personal Computers) Researching the amazon reviews helped pre-qualify this as less-than full function tablet so I was not disappointed by its drawbacks. Mine shipped with Android 2.2 and ‘App Market’ installed along with many other Asian based programs which were easy to delete. I purchased this with the knowledge it would be Wi-Fi only for use in my home and was intended to help me dip my toe, so to speak, into the Android/Tablet ocean.
Before you buy this device know that many Apps will not install. Anything using ‘Adobe Flash’ will not work as you cannot install ‘Flash’ on the device. Anything that uses GPS or location information to work will not work as there is no GPS installed. Anything that uses the telephone input keys or any part of the telephony platform will not install (because there is none.) There is no camera so any shopping Apps that use the camera as a bar-code reader wouldn’t be as easy to use (like the Amazon App.) The Android App Market will tell you, after you register your device, which apps are compatible with your device and won’t let you install them if they are not. The ‘IHeartRadio’ app will not install but the ‘Pandora’ app will and works great throughout my house. Mail, Google Voice, various weather programs all work great. Most games seem to install and it plays MP3s perfectly via the built-in player. The screen resolution is excellent and auto orients as you hold it. The ‘Bubble Level’ app seems to work so the orientation sensors seem to be there. The battery seems to last through the day but I cannot tell you how long it would work if you used it to listen to audio continuously.
If I have any complaints it would be the screen sensitivity and controls. Reading becomes difficult as the only way to scroll is via the touch screen and it is not exactly responsive and at the same time overly sensitive causing pages to zip quickly either way forcing you to try to scroll back and forth looking for where you were. Also, there are NO EXTERNAL VOLUME CONTROLS so you need to have your stylus available to increase and decrease the volume, my little fingers could not accurately find them in the upper right hand corner of the touch screen without the stylus. Oh, and they do include a little stylus with the device but there is no way to store it with or attach it to the device so it kind of floats around the house in constant game of hide-and-seek.
The manual isn’t a manual. Know in your head you will garner nothing from it. It is a six by four inch piece of paper obviously (poorly) translated covering both side of the page. The first sentence reads: “For your ease as soon as possible to operate the machine, when you start using this machine, please read the instructions we have supplied so that you can properly use the machine.” I have double and triple checked and this is exactly as it appears in the manual and this is about the most understandable sentence in the instructions.
With all of this in mind I still rate this device as FOUR STARS for the price (mine was $65.00 with free shipping via Amazon Prime.) I also purchased a 16Gb Micro SD card for $18.00 to expand the amount of music, pictures and videos I could store. I would buy this again (at that price) for my wife and child even if it was just as a media player. I use it for more than just that and am happy even with the drawbacks I’ve outlined. If you know ahead of time of all its limitations you will enjoy it, if you believe you can get a full function android tablet for under a hundred dollars you will always find disappointment.
***UPDATE***
I did end up buying another of these for my teenager. It was the wow gift under the Christmas tree this year. It hasn’t been put down or unused since. My child has used it on Facebook and for email while streaming Pandora and playing games. IPad it’s not (that’s what Santa was asked for…) but for less than a quarter the price I couldn’t have gotten a bigger smile. No issues so-far that haven’t been operator error. This review is from: Elsse (TM) 4.3 Inch Internet Touchscreen Tablet with Built in WIFI and much more (Personal Computers) This is a great product for the price. It’s surprisingly fast, and, for a resistive screen, surprisingly responsive. I had no problem getting the Google Android Market set up on this device. It works great, and the kids love it.
